Walton H. Chancey, AIA

Senior Managing Partner

Walton H. Chancey is the Founder and Senior Managing Partner for Chancey Design Partnership (CDP) as well as the Director of Marketing. He oversees many of the large projects currently ongoing in the office. In his personal life and his business pursuits, Walt adheres to the same philosophy, “Work hard, work happy, and live every day with passion.”

For over 20 years, Walt has been directly responsible for multi-family, mixed-use and commercial developments, hospitality projects, healthcare work, signature single-family residences and historic restoration projects.

Walt’s focus is always on the client’s needs. As President of Gulf Coastal Development, Inc. (GCDI), a company currently developing multi-family projects, custom homes, and mixed-use projects, he knows first hand what his clients are looking for. As a result, the expertise he brings to the first meeting with a new client goes well beyond the basic sticks and bricks, to marketing, sales, and creative financing options necessary for success. In addition to GCDI, Walt is also a Managing Partner of Chancey Interior Design, the award-winning sister firm of Chancey Design Partnership.

His professional affiliations include The American Institute of Architects (AIA), The National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) and The Urban Land Institute. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Florida Association of Condominium Trade Industries (FACTI).

Walt is a graduate of Auburn University, with honors. He is a registered Architect in the states of Florida, Alabama, Texas, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, Nevada, Washington DC, Colorado and Idaho.

Larry Nuzum, Associate AIA, CSI, ICC

Larry Nuzum has almost 30 years of design and construction experience. As the Director of Construction Administration and Quality Control for Chancey Design Partnership, Larry is challenged continually to raise the bar in all of the phases of a project from concept design through the completion of construction.

He is responsible for managing projects including high-rise, health care, hospitality, commercial, and renovation projects and specializing in detailing and specifying building systems and the administration of construction contracts. As Director of Construction Administration, he is responsible for a department of six employees focusing full-time attention on proper construction methods and practices.

Health care projects have been another focus in Larry’s career. He has a thorough knowledge of the special requirements of facilities utilizing MRI, CT and X-ray equipment. He has experience with surgical suites, diagnostic testing facilities, skilled nursing facilities, catheterization labs, assisted living facilities and other medical project types. Consiquentially, he possesses a broad knowledge of the requirements and the detailed review process of the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA).

Larry continually stays up to date on over ten certification courses a year including subjects pertaining to professional liability, Florida Building Code, International Building Code, AIA construction document courses and multi-family liability, among others. With so much specialized technical knowledge, Larry serves CDP as an in-house resource on The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Federal Fair Housing Act (FFH), and international and Florida building codes including electrical, mechanical and plumbing and life safety codes.

Current memberships include the American Institute of Architecture (AIA), American Architectural Manufacturers Association(AAMA), Construction Specifications Institute (CSI), the International Code Council (ICC), and he is a past member of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).

Gregory A. Jones, AIA

Gregory A. Jones joined Chancey Design Partnership in 1991 just two years after the company was founded. Greg is the Director of Architecture and responsible for establishing and maintaining proper high quality design methods and practices.

His specialty is development and the design of high-end custom single family residences. His client list includes professional athletes and business leaders. Residences designed by Greg can be found in some of the most prestigious neighborhoods in the Southeast including Rosemary Beach, WaterColor and WaterSound. In addition to designing custom single family homes, Greg’s experience includes planning and design for residential and commercial mixed-use projects, urban infill and high-rise multi-family projects. He has designed some of CDP’s largest projects. This includes outstanding design work on twin 16-story high rise towers in Panama City Beach and an 11-story twin tower mixed-use project in Tampa’s Channelside district. Greg’s current focus is on a project with a construction price tag in excess of $180 million dollars. It includes numerous multi-story towers, structured parking for approximately 3,000 automobiles and a large retail component in Pinellas County, Florida.

Having developed projects with CDP and on his own, Greg is well acquainted with both sides of the coin when it comes to what it takes to first conceive and then lead a great concept through the realities of financing and politics to a successful completion.

Greg is a graduate of Auburn University and he is a Florida registered architect. He is also a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA).

Terry Cope, AIA

Terry Cope began his professional life as a landscape architect and community planner and shares with his colleagues his experience from a 30-year career in the business of design. As an architect, the skills he gained during those years enrich his perspective and fuel his advocacy for designing to complement the total environment, focusing not only on the exterior architecture but also on the interior architecture, the landscape and the streetscape.

Terry’s project experience ranges from master planning to architectural design of single family, multi-family, commercial and mixed-use buildings. His list of notable projects include the master planning and design of multiple buildings for a 20-acre mixed-use development in Bradenton, Florida featuring 20,000 square feet of commercial space and over 500 condominium residences, lofts, and town houses. And a contemporary single family residence on a site overlooking the Gulf of Mexico that created unique design challenges. This project won an Award of Merit from the Tampa Bay Chapter of the American Institute of Architecture (AIA).

Terry feels that CDP’s design style is a product of the dreams and ambitions of each client multiplied by the dedication and passion of the many creative designers at CDP.

A graduate of the University of Florida, he has served as Secretary, Vice-President and President of the Tampa Bay Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, and as State Director to AIA Florida representing the Tampa Bay region. Terry is a registered architect in the states of Washington and Florida.

Sandra B. Chancey, ASID

Sandra Chancey is the founder and Managing Partner of Chancey Interior Design. She is directly responsible for the design and coordination of all aspects of interior design, from programming and space planning to specifications and furnishings. Sandra’s design knowledge encompasses many different project types including high end residences, hospitality projects, and commercial and office design.

With over 20 years in the industry, Sandra’s design experiences have enriched her philosophies and outlook on design, allowing her to see the whole design picture from concept to completion.

Much of her work has been featured in national architectural and interior design publications including Florida Architecture, Veranda, and Florida Design. Additionally, she has designed many award-winning projects including a single family home that won first place in the national Southern Accents and American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) design competition.

Sandi is a graduate of Auburn University and a Florida registered interior designer. She attends continuing education programs as well, most recently at Harvard University for interior design and hotel design development. In addition to her duties as Managing Partner, Sandra is a member of the ASID.

Catherine Christie

Catherine Christie is a Managing Partner and the Director of Design for Chancey Interior Design. Catherine was with Sandra Chancey when the award-winning interior design firm was originally conceived as Sandra B. Chancey Interior Design in 1989. She became a Managing Partner in 2003.

Catherine’s responsibilities include the design and coordination of hospitality, commercial, health care, and residential projects of various magnitudes.

Throughout her career, Catherine has had a close relationship with the field of architecture. This knowledge has allowed her to engage more completely in every aspect of interior design. From programming, space planning, schematic design, design development, construction documents, and detailing to the art of selecting of interior finishes and procurement of furniture, fixtures, and equipment, Catherine has the experience to see a project from beginning to end.

Such notable publications as Veranda, Florida Design and Southern Accents have featured her projects. Catherine has also designed the interiors of several award-winning single family residences, helping the firm to earn national acclaim.

Cathy is a registered interior designer and graduate of Florida State University. She stays involved in the community by jurying at the International School of Design and for American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) student contests. She is also involved with hospital fundraising.

Greg Archer, AIA, LEED® AP

Greg has been with Chancey Design Partnership for several years, offering diverse design, production and construction administration experience. Greg currently serves as partner-in-charge of project management, coordinating the design, production and construction of many mixed-use projects.

These projects have included distinctive multi family complexes and mixed-use developments; medical office buildings ranging in function from clinics for multiple physician practices to outpatient surgery centers to cancer treatment facilities; and office buildings for both university and private sector clients. He has managed projects throughout the country totaling more than 1.3 million square feet. His efforts have been recognized for their innovativation, quality and client satisfaction.

Greg is dedicated to sustainable practices and has made the commitment to practice responsible design by earning his LEED accredidation through the United States Green Building Council in 2007. Greg has been in the architecture profession since 1990. He received both Bachelor of Architecture and Master of Architecture degrees from Tulane University in New Orleans and studied at London’s Bartlett School of Architecture. While in London, he worked on projects ranging from town house design and community master planning to medical facility renovation and design. Greg is a registered architect in the states of Arkansas and Florida and is a member of the American Institute of Architects.

Carla Atkinson, ASID

Carla serves as the partner-in-charge of project management for Chancey Interior Design. She is responsible for keeping projects on time and within budget. With over 15 years in the design profession, she has worked with some of Florida’s most prestigious designers. Her projects and expertise have focused on hospitality and corporate facilities with responsibilities that engage her from design concept to detailed construction documents through on-the-job construction supervision. Carla’s furnishings, fixtures and equipment experience includes custom and commercial selections for high-end single family homes, hotels, resorts, office spaces, and mixed-use projects.

Carla is a very respected individual in the design industry. Her projects have been published in many regional and national design magazines. Her education has given her a holistic approach to design that stems from a strong conceptual foundation based largely on architecture.

Carla is a juror and past Advisory Board member at the International Academy of Merchandising and Design in Tampa. She has also worked as an instructor at the International Academy which has given her the ability to educate clients regarding their own projects. Carla has a Bachelors of Design with High Honors from the College of Architecture at the University of Florida in Gainesville. She is also a member of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID).
